Video Games Live: The concert that could, and still can. :-)

Next week in San Diego, I will be in attendance at a concert that I have once attended with Biohazard in Hollywood, known as Video Games Live. The beauty of the concert is that they spare no expense in bringing in game themes (old and new console and even computer!) and playing them in orchestrated awesomeness.

The last time I was there, I went to the pre-show festival and observed game tournaments for not yet released games were being held (Can’t remember which one for sure, I think it was guitar hero series, though.) and lots of merchandise was being sold. moving right along, autographs were signed (I had no idea who most of them were until I read their name badges and job description. Then it would hit me who they were and, boy, I was impressed.) and, After a long line, my book was ran out of autograph space, so… off to be seated! Highlights of the evening were B.T., An arcade tribute medley, and a Lucas Games medley of their classic DOS games, along with a lot of great console game music and the announcement of HALO 3.

At this upcoming concert, it will be held two days after the release of VGL’s first soundtrack cd, so that will likely be there (with the Myst and Tetris goodness included.) along with more pre-show awesomeness. I can hardly wait, and if you need me, I’ll be in the champaign seating drinking wine and will be on DS PictoChat. :-D

To good times and drunken PictoChat. (Wave)

  1. That show was awesome when I went. Definately worth the trip if you are as into VG music as we are.

    Quote:
“If anyone needs to use the restroom before we go, there’s one on the way out.”
“Oh man. We already did that many times during the show…”

    That about sums it up.

  2. Man. Listening to Video Game Songs today to hype myself up, and it’s working, to say the least. Although I doubt they’ll be playing the game themes I’m listening to, I’m still optimistic about whatever they choose.

Speaking of, I wonder what they will be playing this time, as there have been no announcements yet. The last time that happened, however, they broke out awesome songs never before played and had awesome goodies. Here’s hoping. :-)

And to Biohazard: That was hysterical and very witty. Well said. ;-) And next time it’s at the Hollywood Bowl, a relative of mine agreed to join the party as well for the event. Here’s to building vacation time! :-)

  3. I just about died at that show multiple times. It was so awesome I can’t put it into words.

What I like about it is they play a large array of different material. Sure they’ve got Mario, Sonic, and Zelda, but they also cover a lot of other games that aren’t just limited to consoles and Japan. When I was there, they played Halo 2, Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, Warcraft, and Myst among others, not to mention the awesome classic games medley. Oh man, the Myst medley was epic! Hell, every freaking movement was epic! It was so awesome, I had many “movements” myself…

  4. Yeah, they sure played a lot of really awesome themes and medleys. I guess the only sad thing was it had to end after two or three hours LOL

Epic can only describe some songs. Words cannot describe the awesomeness of others, or how cool it was to see Jack Wall conducting the Myst theme (He sure got into his work that night!).
