Still Reallly Hot
May 25, 2007 on 1:21 pm | In Ottawa Adventures, Personal, Programming | By QBasicer | No CommentsYesterday, it reached a high of 32C, with a humidex of 35C (95F). Today is shaping up to be much the same. With a forcasted high of 31C, it’s already at that at 1318 EDT.
Another member of the ZDoom Community sent me a link to one of his software projects, called SoaS. I invite you to check it out. I can see some potential with it, but the only thing I’m wondering is how well it stacks up against Lua, although Lua does not work (as far as I know) as a shell scripting language. It’d be interesting to see if one could create module plugins that could extend it further than what’s offered.
Who’s Messin’ With the Thermostat?
May 23, 2007 on 8:47 pm | In Ottawa Adventures, Personal | By QBasicer | 2 CommentsSo, I think summer’s finally here. Today it reached 27C (80.6F), and tommorow there’s a high forcasted of 33C (91.4F). That’s plenty hot for me! Rarely does it even get that hot back home! I think I’m in for quite the summer. Thankfully, I have an A/C to keep me company. I was at Zellers today, and bought a fan. The funny part is, back home it only hit 12C today (53.6F, thank you google!).
On the flip side, I just downloaded a bunch of Cake. And no, not cake the food, the band. A few years ago, I came across this song, and I just grabbed a couple more of their tunes. I really like the singer’s voice, and their general style.
I’ve also have had bad luck with headphones recently. On Saturday, I bought a $20 pair of Sony headphones, but a day later they stopped working. Bah! $20 was the most expensive Future Shop had before it jumped up to $108 (not including iPod lanyard headphones, but I really kinda just wanted a pair of regular iPod headphones).
TimeClock
May 21, 2007 on 8:45 pm | In Programming | By QBasicer | No CommentsA while ago, my father asked for a little app to simplfy timezone calculations. Here’s the result:
I’m making it available for public download relatively soon.
Edit: I added the date because sometimes dealing with timezones that cross days can get confusing.
New Header!
May 21, 2007 on 9:39 am | In Ottawa Adventures, Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsWell, I figured since I’m going to be here for a while, I should replace the header.
I think it came out rather well, except that it doesn’t match the current colour theme the best, but oh well, I like the colour theme too much to change it.
I also found this video, and I think it’s so hilarous, especially since I’m a ‘Code Monkey’, but I’d rather call myself a ‘Code Poet’ :P.
Go Sens Go!
May 20, 2007 on 10:05 pm | In Ottawa Adventures, Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsWoo! So the sens finally won their series yesterday in overtime! I was actually out in Kanata at a futureshop, and watched it in the store for a bit. They had a lovely widescreen plasma HDTV with 5.1 surroundsound. That place went CRAZY when they won!
On the trip home, I arranged somewhat of a party for a few of the guys from work. Nick and Jason eventually showed up, and we headed to Elgin street for some wings. After that, we celebrated on the streets a bit more, then had the bright idea to go to Quebec. Once we got there, we were totally lost. After a while of aimlessly walking around, we arrived at a bar, only to get there like 30 minutes before closing. Whatever, we had a beer and went back across the bridge. By this time it was so late the buses had stopped running for the day in my direction, but Nick and Jason were able to catch the last run out to their place. I took a taxi home.
Today has been a complete writeoff, I haven’t done much of anything, and I’ve totally enjoyed it. Except the headphones that I bought yesterday don’t work. Ugh!
Oh, and now you need to be a registered member to comment. Too much spam and crap to constantly filter out.
Hot Peppers Hate Me
May 19, 2007 on 11:37 am | In Ottawa Adventures, Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsActually, it could be the other way around. Anyways, a group from work went to this Asian restruant in downtown Ottawa called T.J. Pagoda’s. A friend and myself both ordered the same thing, and there were these hot peppers in the chicken dish. Like whole hot peppers. The plate was rather spicy to begin with, but I had this crazy idea to see if it actually was hot. So I eat it, chew it, swallow it, and it wasn’t hot at all. Or at least right then. Within a few seconds my mouth was on fire, my face was bright red, my nose was running, and my eyes were all teared up. It was a good time! The others had a fun time laughing at me. Eventually I waited it out and it went away. The waitress, I’m sure, is telling that story to everybody as we speak.
So after the pepper incident, we decided to go back to stop by the LCBO, pick up drinks, and then go to Ali’s house for predrinking, then hit up a bar/club downtown. We split into two groups, one on foot, and the other in car. The group walking actually got there first because the other group forgot where they parked their car! Eventually it got sorted out, and we went out to… Zaphod’s? I think that’s what it was called. It was really sweet, and was playing cool electronica. Eventually we left, but it was a good night. I woke up, and in fact, right now, my ears are still ringing from last night.
Live From Ottawa
May 13, 2007 on 7:30 pm | In Ottawa Adventures, Personal | By QBasicer | 2 CommentsHello everybody. Sorry I’ve been absent. I a couple weeks ago I moved from Fredericton, back home, and now I’m in Ottawa working for IBM. I’m a J9 Virtual Machine developer, and I plan on staying here for 8 months. I’m having a blast, and I really enjoy what I’m doing. I’ve been in tourest mode for like a week. This city is so huge you’re constantly finding new stuff! I have quite a few pictures on facebook, so you should check that out.
Cheers,
QB
