ZDLSharp

Well, ZDLSharp has it’s own Sourceforge Projects Page. ZDLSharp as mentioned below, is based off ZDL, with a few bugfixes and enhancements. Currently still in Alpha, I’m still adding basic functionality. I have a few plans for ZDL 4.0, including a very simple yet robust multiplayer aide. I’m not going to actually give details, but I’ll hint here, and only here.

  1. Is ZDL# really based on ZDL3 or was it a re-write from scratch? (in true Bio fashion)

I was planning on implementing a plugin system for ZDL4. That way you could have all kinds of features without increasing the complexity needlessly. You could - for example - have a plugin for multiplayer, DMFLAGS calculators, bot editors, INI profiles and other advanced stuff without bloating the executable.

Heh, I just noticed that ZDL# is ZDL3 shifted: Not quite 4 but better than 3… :)

  2. ZDLSharp 3.0 is a replica of ZDL 3.0d, however, as soon as the first offical full release comes out, it’s ZDLSharp 3.1, or goes my current naming scheme.

While made to have the exact same look and feel, ZDLSharp is a completely rewrite, using aboslutely none of the same code. ZDL 4.0 will not have a plugin system, or at least not right away. I’m thinking this might screw up support for Linux and other Mono platforms, for right now I only know how to import and link to Win32 DLLs.

A scripting engine might suffice, but that’s a lot of work, and I’m not sure that it would be worth it.

  3. If it’s a total rewrite, why are you giving me so much credit?

Yeah, about the ZDL4 plugin system; It sounded like a good idea way back when, but then I didn’t have the problem of cross-platform.
Couldn’t you use shared objects for ‘niX? Testing must be done!
