More Spam
January 31, 2007 on 2:45 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | 1 CommentMy host is really getting to me. Since I last wrote, I had 15 more spam comments. Ugh! One of the reasons I left my old host was to speed things up and eliminate spam. They all have the same user-agent, however, since I can’t look at the access logs, I can’t actually block them. They have a bunch of different IPs, so I can’t just block them.
But the rush of spam posters has artifically increased my blog traffic by 61% versus the past 5 days. I’m assuming a large percentage of that is due to spam postings.
As Kaitlyn pointed out, I’m getting a few of my hits from her site. Which is cool, I guess. Also interesting, is the percentage of firefox users have gone down. The past 6 days have seen 50% firefox, and 50% IE, while the 4 days before that saw over 53% Firefox, and 45% IE. The past 3 days have seen a 60% IE traffic, and 40% IE. Overall, FIrefox has the most with 52.12%, IE with 46.74%, and Opera with a mere 1.09%.
House Week!
January 30, 2007 on 1:28 am | In Personal | By QBasicer | 2 CommentsThis week is Joy Kidd House week. We’ve got a few activities for people to participate in. Check the posters around Kidd for details.
To commemorate this event, some of the HC, HT, and others got together to put paw prints and other Kidd propaganda throughout the Quad. And by throughout, one small space (it’s REALLY cold outside).
This week is going to be another busy week. I need to do some studying, and just generally work on assignments. I’m finding a few of the courses challenging, which is good. Economics I find especially challenging.
My hits are on a decline. Check this out:

Not cool.
Two Things
January 27, 2007 on 6:36 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsWell so far today, I’ve done basically two things.
1) I did laundry, and lots of it.
2) Rearranged and cleaned my room (still more tidy though)
Later I need to do work, though. I’ll let you know how that goes later ^_^.
A Week in Review
January 27, 2007 on 1:44 am | In Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsWow, it’s been a crazy week. On monday, I had my chem assignment due, on tuesday I had my classes from 8:30-5:30, wednesday my CS assignment was due. Also on wednesday was my chemistry midterm and calculus quiz. Thursday my other CS assignment was due. Friday 12 coverletters and resume were due, as well as an econ test.
What a busy week. Also, this week I’ve been promoting my blog. However, in the past couple days, hits have dropped off pretty sharply, although I think things are going to level off soon.
This week? Well wednesday I have a CS assignment due, and thursday another CS assignment. I also have another Macro quiz to do. Saturday is pubcrawl, so that’ll be a good stress reliever.
DiscoVision!
January 23, 2007 on 6:02 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | 1 CommentIt’s funny what one can find while looking stuff up on Wikipedia…
Once upon a time, before the CD, there was the LaserDisc. The LaserDisc was MASSIVE compared to DVDs. Anyways, the orginal name of the LaserDisc, was DiscoVision. What an absolutly HORRIBLE name. The DiscoVision was around from ‘69 to ‘82. The patent holder for the LaserDisc (Discovision Associates (DVA)) also manages and licenses intellectual property related to laserdisc, compact disc, and optical disc technologies.
Who knew? LaserDisc survived until 2000. I bet none of you have even heard of it. The last two movies sold in LaserDisc format was Sleepy Hollow and Bringing Out the Dead. The first being Jaws in ‘78. The CD hit the market in ‘82, and the DVD in 1995. DVD orginally stood for “Digital Video Disc”, however was renamed “Digital Versatile Disc” in 1995. A lot of people forget that DVDs aren’t just for video applications, and that a lot of new games are released on them.
It’s also interesting to note that historically, DVDs were supposed to be 5GB, but due to some changes, it ended up being 4.7GB. Also, a lot of people get confused between DVD-R and DVD+R, myself included. I guess the rule of thumb is DVD-R is the most widely supported format for consumer video DVD players. DVD+R is technically the better of the two, but as the Wikipedia states, most people wouldn’t notice the difference.
AdSense Added
January 23, 2007 on 2:07 am | In Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsI’ve added two adsense objects to my blog. One is a free software bundle from Google, and the other is a standard google ad. I get money for each person that clicks it, and for each installation. I’ve had adense around on Vectec for a long time, however, now it’s more “in your face.” To date, I’ve made $4.47. I’ve also JUST added google search, which is probably better than the old Wordpress search engine.
Two Rapid Kills
January 22, 2007 on 6:18 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsWell Bryce and Vanessa were just killed in assassins. Jo-anne, who previously had Bryce, was killed by Laura Maxwell, Bryce’s roommate’s target. I guess we won’t see the battle of the roommates now. Pat is after Laura Max., who is after Adam. Good luck guys!
I’m still not sure who has me. I got a message from Amy that my assasinator had to be changed. That’s ok, I still had no idea who it was. Paranoia is great right now. I think people are starting to notice the patterns I use to get back to my room, but it’s too easy to get killed going the main way. Hmmm…
Relief
January 22, 2007 on 2:50 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsWell, my CS2533 teacher wasn’t in today, so my assginment got pushed up until wednesday. That’s a major relief. Also, my chem teacher moved her assignment due time from 12:00PM until 5:30PM. Also good news. Bad news is that my chem test is on wednesday, and I thought it was next week. Eeeek! I also have to put in my job applications in for Thursday. Fun fun. I also have my CS1303 assignment due on Thursday. Lots to do, not enough time to do it!
Today so far I’m up to 10 unique hits, with 83 total hits. Lookin good guys!
Assassins
January 21, 2007 on 11:02 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | 2 CommentsWell, assassins have started at my res. Saturday morning, we all got our missions slid under our doors. The goal is to hit the person you got assigned to with a sock. Once you do that, you inheirt their next kill, plus you get all the slips for the kills they’ve done. So far I”ve made one kill. There are rules (no headshots, can’t kill going to class, nor to the bathroom, or to mealhall), but everybody is sneaking around. I’m still in, but everybody’s gathering intel. so that we can try and find out who our assassiator is. It’s intense. Everybody’s walking around with a sock.
It’s great fun, but I kind of wish I’d get killed so I can walk around and not be fearing for my life. The chances of making my next kill are small. They know who I am, so I can’t even use the element of surprize.
Answering Machine
January 21, 2007 on 10:32 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsI finally got around to changing that blasted answering machine default message. Much more…me…now. I’ve also installed Yahoo Widgets. Here’s a peek:

It lets me see almost real-time statistic for my blog, updated every 5 minutes. Pretty cool, I think. I don’t know how long I’ll keep this around, I tend to love my resources.
