It’s Almost Halloween!
October 30, 2006 on 11:48 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsIt’s almost Halloween! In a little over an hour it’ll be that day full of fun, fright, and candy. That’s right: Halloween! I’ve decorated my door and room (as seen in the picture). I also want to send a happy birthday out to Liz Keagan! Hope everybody has fun (and if you’re at UNB, don’t forget the P-Sac at 9, and if you’re in Kidd, the house dinner at 6).
What a Week
October 29, 2006 on 11:15 am | In Personal | By QBasicer | 1 CommentI’ve gone through 3 exams this week, one that was extremely difficult, one that was extremely easy, and one that was just hard.
Thursday night, my Mother called me. She told me that my grandmother went to Halifax to get some scans done, and they found out the tumours in her lungs have doubled. That hit hard, because I know they havn’t grown at all much in the past couple of years, if at all.
The second thing she told me, was that in early fall, my aunt (whom I’m very close with) was diagnosed with bone cancer. The big regional hospital called up the next of kin on tuesday and said she was in pretty rough shape, and that she may not last 48 hours. She’s doing better and better every day now, so that’s good.
So that’s this week in a nutshell.
Less Than an Hour
October 26, 2006 on 1:41 pm | In Personal, Programming | By QBasicer | No CommentsIt’s less than an hour to my last midterm: anthropology. The jury’s still out on the difficulty on this one, but it’ll be good to get it overwith. (Thanks Kirsten for the key terms!)
Looks like the IE is being friendly to the FireFox team. I wish I could get a cake for every time I release a version of my software :\.
One Confirmed
October 25, 2006 on 10:02 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | 1 CommentIn an e-mail sent to the student body:
Norwalk Update
The Student Health Centre at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton received confirmation today of one case of Norwalk-like virus.“The case has been investigated and it appears that the student was exposed to the virus by a source from outside of the Atlantic region,” said Jo Ann Majerovich, medical director of the Student Health Centre. “The student has recovered and is doing well.”
The university is working with Public Health to closely monitor the situation.
The health and safety of all members of the university community is a priority. Since the incidence of the Norwalk-like virus was reported at Maritime universities last week, UNB Fredericton has focused on prevention and continues to do so.
All members of the university community are reminded to continue to take precautions:
- wash hands frequently (use lots of soap and hot water);
- avoid contact with people who are ill;
- avoid sharing personal items such as water bottles, dishes, cutlery and cell phones; and
- avoid shared surfaces such as door knobs and hand railings as much as possible.“Norwalk-like viruses are one of several possible causes of gastroenteritis, the stomach flu,” said Dr. Majerovich. “The stomach flu is a common illness.”
While there is no specific medical treatment for gastroenteritis, Dr.
Majerovich advises those who are sick to stay at home, keep well hydrated, and observe the precautions noted above.Additional communications will be issued as necessary.
I guess the girl that has it is from Tibbits.
Norwalk Update
October 24, 2006 on 10:30 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | No CommentsOffically, the university has told us nobody has it.
Unofficially, we know of people moving into quarentine, probably waiting for test results. The problem is the people that have moved out live in the residence I’m attached to and share a meal hall with.
Also, laugh at Mallory for having a firedrill at 12:45am. Sucker.
I got my mark back for my chemistry. So far I got an A on economics, and a B+ on chemistry. Gotta keep truckin’, 2 more left!
Also, if you live in residence at UNB, check out this link for an awesome file sharing program! Download lots of movies and music and programs virtually instantly! You’ll never use anything else again, and many people take requests too!
Yay for Care Packages
October 22, 2006 on 9:42 pm | In Personal | By QBasicer | 1 CommentIt has definitely been an eventful weekend, but it was better because my father came up to Fredericton last night.
We went for Breakfast at the Coffee Mill, which was very good. We drove around Fredericton for a while, stopped into Future Shop, and into Chapters. In chapters, he bought me a book that I can use to work on the res website with.
Mom sent me up a care package. Enclosed was food, Skittles, and halloween decorations. I’m semi-excited for halloween. Our social night is coming up too, I’m looking forward to that as well as our pubcrawl.
Having lots of fun in Freddy Beach!
Website Moved
October 20, 2006 on 11:05 am | In Front Page, Personal | By Administrator | No CommentsWell, probably you came here from a blank HTML page saying “Vectec.net has recently moved. Coming soon.”. Well, I got annoyed with my old host, so now I’m on a new webhost, AwardSpace. Should be a bit quicker, although I can’t post large files and will have to link back to my other host.
Tell me what you think! (PS: The old blog is still at yuckfou.vectec.net/blog)
That Norwalk Thing
October 20, 2006 on 10:48 am | In Uncategorized | By QBasicer | No CommentsOuch. Apparently Norwalk has hit STU. Hopefully it won’t go any further. A friend of mine’s classmate’s roommate (got that?) apparently has it. This is the same virus that closed down Mt. Allison Univeristy, a mere 2 hour drive away from Fredericton. Now Norwalk has been confirmed at St. FX University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. For those that don’t know, Norwalk is a viral infection is characterized by self-limiting, mild, and characterized by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Headache and low-grade fever may occur.
